MACDUFF SHELLFISH ANNOUNCES FIRST PARTNERS FOR US MARKET ENTRY

Premium Scottish langoustines from Macduff Shellfish are now available in the Twin Cities and Rocky Mountain regions of the US.

Scotland-based Macduff Shellfish has begun selling a new langoustine product — chem-free frozen tail meat clusters — through two exclusive regional distribution partners in the Twin Cities and Rocky Mountain regions: Seattle Fish Denver and The Fish Guys in Minneapolis.

The tail meat in the clusters is not treated with any chemicals. And since the clusters are IQF, chefs can quickly thaw just what they need or even cook the product from frozen, ensuring optimal quality.

Frozen whole, shell-on langoustines will be added as an additional offering this summer.

"North America is a market we have watched carefully for the past few years and believe holds great potential," says Roy Cunningham, CEO of Macduff Shellfish. "We are pleased to be entering the US market with such respected and enthusiastic partners as Seattle Fish Denver and The Fish Guys."

Langoustine are poised to be the next hot ingredient. Said Bon Appétit Magazine in a piece last week on May 8: "Forget foie. Forget caviar. Langoustines are the new marker of haute cuisine."

"We are thrilled to be one of the first seafood distributors in North America selling this premium product," says Mike Shepler, Seattle Fish Brand Ambassador. Bringing this traditional European ingredient to chefs in the US is long overdue, and the response has been very favorable."

Says Mike Higgins, President and CEO of The Fish Guys: "In Minneapolis and the Greater Twin Cities, demand for new, unique and high-quality product has never been higher. In 2014, no less than 95 new restaurants opened, and 2015 is on pace to beat that number. For The Fish Guys, it is very important for us to be able to supply our clients with the best available product, and we are thrilled that we now can offer premium Scottish langoustines from Macduff Shellfish."

While Macduff Shellfish has enjoyed success in markets across Europe, and increasingly in Asia, this is their first entry into North America. Talks with distribution partners in other key markets across the US and Canada are underway.
