ZERO Landfill Waste at Macduff Shellfish
A new milestone was hit in August when Macduff's Mintlaw processing facility achieved zero landfill waste production for the first time. The land-based operation team at Macduff has been working closely with commercial cleaning specialists, One Stop Solutions. This enabled the identification of all recyclable and non-recyclable wastes from the plant, driving further improvements in Macduff’s recycling record. According to Macduff's monthly Environmental Report, all recyclable material was identified and separated for processing. What could not be recycled was processed as Waste to Energy (the process of creating electricity from waste) leading to the achievement of a 100% landfill diversion rate and underlining Macduff's commitment to sustainability, both at sea and on land.
